Renovating in White Rock: what's required
White Rock requires a Single-Family Dwelling / Houseplex Renovation Permit for renovations to a single-family home, including adding a secondary suite, and an appointment with a Building Official is required before an application can be submitted. If the value of the work exceeds 50% of the home's current assessed value, the whole structure must be brought up to current Building Code and City bylaw compliance, not just the renovated portion. Plumbing work must be done by a licensed BC tradesperson with a City business licence, while natural gas and electrical work is handled entirely by Technical Safety BC. A secondary suite is limited to one per dwelling and must be inspected and registered through the City's own process. We scope every renovation against the 50% threshold before pricing it.

Do I need a permit to renovate in White Rock?
